Conference Program

Featuring, Harry Boyte:
Founder of the Center for Democracy and Citizenship at the University of Minnesota and one of the great intellectual leaders of the civic engagement movement.

Boyte, author of Everyday Politics and a number of other books and articles, has recently completed a new book, The Citizen Solution: How You Can Make a Difference.  His new book addresses the topic of civic agency – how people can become agents and architects of their own lives, shapers of their communities, and collaborators with others on common challenges. It includes many stories of students learning civic skills and habits of effective, collaborative public action.

In preparation for the conference, please consider reading the following:

"Against the current: Developing the civic agency of students"by Harry Boyte in Change Magazine

"The American Dream" by Harry Boyte in The Journal of College and Character (2008)

The morning will start with coffee and refreshments beginning at 8:30am with the program beginning promptly at 9:00am. Lunch will be provided.

Registration is needed so that we have accurate numbers to order enough supplies and materials. An agenda will be posted soon.
