Why Join?

Joining SAI can be a very rewarding experience during college years and the rest of your life in music beyond school. Sigma Alpha Iota is a nationally recognized professional organization that is dedicated to promoting the spread of music and interactions between musicians. In addition to improving the musical life of students on campus, we also work with faculty and members of the community. On a national level, Sigma Alpha Iota's philanthropical branch funds programs to enrich the lives of all people. In addition to charity, we also strengthen ties between each other, and form a support group and life-long friendships in our sisterhood.

The national website gives more information on nation-wide projects, such as Inter-American Music Awards (IAMA), Services for Musicians with Special Needs, People to People projects, and various Scholarships and Loans available to members.

On a local level, Sigma Alpha Iota sponsors activities to brighten the lives of students in Mason Hall. We hold formal dances, entertaining fundraisers, and food and clothing drives among other things. Each spring semester, SAI holds an "American Music Concert" which provides MUS120 credit and an enjoyable evening of music composed in the U.S. In conjunction with the brothers of the local chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, who routinely service music stands, SAI replaces dilapidated chairs in practice rooms. However, our activities are not limited to music majors alone. Our sisterhood holds informative lectures and film showings to emphasize the importance of music in general education, as well as our everyday lives. We attempt to bridge the gap between Mason Hall and the campus musical life.
