Musicale and Song

To maintain good standing in Sigma Alpha Iota, sisters of our chapter are required to perform in at least one musicale per semester. They can fulfill this duty by performing solo (perhaps after a buisiness meeting), or during a group venue with other sisters (such as singing in a small group at a nursing home).

As the year progresses, a brief write up about the programs from each sister's musicale will be posted here.

Sister recitals and other musical events at the Fredonia School of Music are listed on the Delta Lambda calendar or on the campus calendar of events.

December 10th: Province Officer Visit
A beautiful musicale was performed for our PO Sarah Mattison at the Formal Business Meeting she attended. Aurora DePaul, Victoria Vargas, Molly Perry and Andraya Fazio sang an arrangement of a Christmas Carol by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and were accompanied by Danielle Smith on piano. Afterwards, a trio of soon-to-be committed seniors sang "So Near So Dear" and brought a tear to our eye.

December 17th: Caroling at St. Vincents
A group of SAI sisters entertained elderly residents at St. Vincent's home. Michelle Wilson arranged SSA carols for the women, and other girls performed solo or in small ensembles. Everyone was singing at the end of the performance, after which holiday cards were passed out to spread Christmas cheer.

March 4th: Kristen Johnsen's joint recital
Along with her friend Desiree, Kristen gave a clarinet recital in Diers. They both wore matching red dresses and finished the program with an exciting Klezmer piece!

March 25th: Kari Johnson, oboe
After the meeting, Kari performed an oboe sonata for the sisters in attendance. She played beautifully and we all enjoyed her music.

March 31st: Danielle Smith's recital
To commemorate her graduation, Danielle performed a series of pieces for flute, including an original jazz piece written by a fellow student.

April 7th: Jenn Gulezian's recital
Jenn gave a lovely Easter weekend recital for her family, friends and sisters. She wore a stunning blue dress and was delicately accompanied by flute and guitar.

April 14th: MIT Musicale
The Spring 2007 MIT class gave a performance to the residents of the Chautauqua County Home this afternoon. Among the pieces performed were an oboe duet by Missy Allio and Jackie Curtis and a musical theater selection performed by Marissa Greenwald and Amy Shake.

April 22nd: Aurora DePaul's recital
Aurora mesmerized the audience with her fabulous stage presence at her Junior Performance recital.

April 28th: Laurie Hughes' recital
To celebrate her graduation, Laurie gave a recital accompanied by fellow sister Carlee Fransisco. She performed the fabulous Martinu clarinet concerto among other works.

April 29th: American Music Concert
Although smaller than usual, the annual AMC concert was a bit hit! Brothers of the Rho Chi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia joined the sisters in celebrating music written by American composers. Marisa Slaventa, Vicki Vargas, Kelly Campbell, Katherine Thompson, and Molly & Eric Perry all performed. A reception was held afterwards as Boris VanDruff and Tony Scardace entertained us with piano music.

May 5th: Victoria Vargas' recital

May 6th: Spring Banquet
Four sisters provided music during dessert for the Spring 2007 Banquet. Vicki Vargas and Nicole Weigelt performed "Bella Nuit" by Jacque Offenbach, with Katherine Thompson on piano. Afterwards, Meghan Koch dedicated her performance of "Remember" by Leann Rimes to the graduating seniors as well as the entire sisterhood.
