Projects

Although Sigma Alpha Iota is not primarily a service fraternity, our chapter strives to help others through generous donations of time and money. A list of fundraising and community service activities will be listed here, along with details on how you can help us out!

October 21st: Costume Ball
Each October, SAI hosts a themed dance for students at the White Inn in Fredonia, NY. This year, participants were encouraged to dress up as a famous or historical musician. Prizes were awarded to the most authentic and funniest male and female. It was a great night and a successful fundraiser.

October 28th: Safe Trick-Or-Treat
Several sisters helped Phi Mu Alpha with their project, an indoor trick-or-treating opportunity for children in the area. The halls of Mason were spookily decorated as children knocked on practice room doors to get candy. Brothers and sisters in costume greeted them. A party for the kids was held in the lounge at noon, featuring face painting, pumpkin decorating and other crafts, as well as refreshments.

November 5th: Quest for a Cure
A benefit walk for PLE research was coordinated by Lyndsay Williams, a sister of SAI. Members of SAI, PMA, and other music organizations participated; both walking the event and helping it run smoothly. A benefit concert was held afterwards at Barker Commons, and over $# was raised.

December 10th: Breast Cancer Yogurt Lid Collection
Throughout the semester, sisters collected, washed, and saved over 150 pink Yoplait yogurt lids. Each lid entitled a ten cent donation to breast cancer research.

December 16th: Community Caroling
Members of Phi Mu Alpha and Sigma Alpha Iota visited alumni's houses in the Fredonia area to carol. They entertained their audiences with carefully prepared 4-part harmonies of popular carols and Christmas songs. A holiday party was held afterwards and Secret Santa gifts were exchanged.

December 17th: Caroling at St. Vincents
A group of SAI sisters entertained elderly residents at St. Vincent's home. Michelle Wilson arranged SSA carols for the women, and other girls performed solo or in small ensembles. Everyone was singing at the end of the performance, after which holiday cards were passed out to spread Christmas cheer.

February 16th: Valentine's Candy Sale
Cute Valentine cards and bags of candy were sold in the Mason Lounge. Many people supported the sisters and purchased a little something for their sweetheart on Valentine's Day!

April 10th: Syracuse Students Visit
The sisters of SAI hosted a group of visiting high school students. The students performed some jazz pieces under the direction of Mr. Ford, the father of one of our members. Afterwards, SAI held a reception which included refreshments and fun activities.

April 24th: Buffalo Kids News Day
Sigma Alpha Iota girls crawled out of bed early this morning to sell papers for the Buffalo Kids News Day fundraiser. Almost our entire chapter was up at 5:30 to stand on street corners in Dunkirk NY to sell newspapers whose profits benefited Children's Hospital. We had a lot of fun encouraging drivers to help support the cause and earned some spiffy hats and aprons in the process.
