SUNY Fredonia, under the umbrella of a US Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) grant, has established the SUNY Fredonia/Dunkirk Community Partnerships. COPC grants help colleges and universities apply their human, intellectual, and institutional resources to the challenge of revitalizing distressed communities. After three years of diligent, committed work, the community-university advisory committee, made up of a diverse group of energetic individuals, identified the true needs to be addressed in the City of Dunkirk and short and long term goals to be achieved through such a positive community-university partnership. Through community input, issues to be addressed were identified and a proposed plan of action included the following major categorical areas: Community Organizing (Outreach); Education/Cultural Development; Economic Development/Job Training; and Health. Offices are in the Sterns Building in downtown Dunkirk.
