Are health forms and immunization records required?
Yes. You will receive a health history form. This form provides the health center with important information regarding your student's health status and family history. The form also includes a section regarding the meningitis vaccine. This vaccine is highly recommended for all college students. New York State law requires all full and part-time students born after 1957 to provide documentation of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. You are also required to sign and return the meningitis form.

These rules are strictly enforced. You will not be allowed to continue in classes if these requirements are not met.

You should also have a PPD skin test for tuberculosis within 1 year before starting classes. This test is available at our health center for a small fee.

What happens if my child is sick and the health center is closed?
The health center is open Mon. - Fri. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Emergency care is always available at Brooks Memorial Hospital. The hospital is located at 529 Central Ave., Dunkirk, approximately 3 miles from the campus. The emergency room is staffed with a physician 24 hours a day.

If you live in the Residence Halls and become ill after clinic hours, please notify the RA or RD on duty. They may be able to offer help.

For any emergency on campus or when an ambulance is needed, the University Police should be called at 716-673-3333.

If there is an emergency when you are off campus, dial 911.

How safe is my student on campus?
Fredonia is a very safe campus. An ACT student survey shows that our students rate personal security and safety on campus significantly higher than students on many other college campuses. To ensure Fredonia remains a comfortable campus, we've taken the following measures:

• our campus is well-lit
• shuttles provide transportation back and forth to parking lots
• parking lots are electronically monitored 24 hours/day
• access to residence halls is by ID card swipe unique to each building
• entry to residence hall between 9 PM and 7 AM via front door only
• residence halls are staffed in the front lobby from 9 PM to 7 AM
• Residence Life staff and University Police on duty 24 hours/day
• emergency phones are located across campus

Is public transportation available on campus?
Yes. Several buses stop on campus each day with transportation to Erie, Buffalo and Jamestown. The campus also has a local community bus to take students to local shopping areas and around the Village of Fredonia.

How can I arrange a tour of the campus?
Looking through our website gives you a quick glance at Fredonia, but you'll want to come to visit to really experience the campus. Take a tour and see the places where you'll live, eat, and study. Visit when classes are in session, and you'll be able to meet with faculty in your major and sit in on a class or two. We offer a wide range of visits for both freshmen and transfers. Please make reservations ahead of time by checking online for our Saturday Visits and Open Houses.
