Classification of Equipment

Equipment Grouping:

• 1. Group B: Building – a physical building, pavement or sidewalk, etc.


• 2. Group I: built-in, building support – windows, heating systems, etc.


• 3. Group II: built-in, other – anything attached to a building or work area
  that cannot be removed, ie. elevator, garage compressor, plumbing, etc.


• 4. Group III: Moveable – can be relocated to other areas
  Property Control is responsible for overseeing this group of equipment.
  All equipment in this category is assigned property control numbers with
  the corresponding barcode sticker.

Exclusions from PCS:

• 1. personal property
• 2. supplies (phones, calculators, stationary)
• 3. library books; livestock
• 4. land, buildings, site improvements
• 5. built-in (Group I and II) equipment
• 6. computer software
• 7. equipment with a value below $1500

Dollar Thresholds:

All assets valued at or above a certain dollar threshold are assigned asset control numbers and a corresponding barcode property tag is affixed, as per the State University Construction Fund (SUCF) and Research Foundation guidelines. This ensures that each item is tracked properly while in use and is removed when no longer in use.

• 1. Any item purchased for $1500 or more is assigned an asset number. This is a white barcode sticker that is affixed on the item for tracking purposes.


• 2. Any item purchased for under $1500 is assigned a red State Property Sticker. This must be affixed to verify SUNY ownership.


• 3. Any item that is purchased through the Research Foundation that is $5000 or more is assigned a number and receives a white barcode sticker that indicates “Research Foundation” ownership. Items below $5000 receive the red State Property stickers.
