Scholarship Application Process
SUNY Fredonia awards approximately $1 million in merit-based scholarships to academically qualified students each year.
The scholarship application process for new freshmen and transfer students has changed. Applications for scholarship consideration are no longer being mailed to you. Scholarship applications (the PART II) is now available. Scholarship applicants MUST complete the PART II supplemental form for scholarship consideration.
Scholarships recipients will be notified on a rolling basis beginning February 15, 2008 with a response date of May 1, 2008. Scholarship review continues until all awards are offered and accepted.

Freshmen Scholarships

Fredonia Distinguished Scholar Award (2 awards)
The Fredonia Distinguished Scholar Award is a renewable $5,000 award. Minimum requirements for consideration are a 96% unweighted high school average, and a 1250 SAT or 28 ACT score. Typically, this scholarship is awarded to a student at the valedictorian or salutatorian level. Once enrolled, the student must achieve a minimum 3.25 overall GPA to retain this award. Students must also live in a college residence hall.
President's Award of Excellence (12 awards)
The President's Award of Excellence is a renewable $3,000 award. Minimum requirements for consideration are a 94% unweighted high school average, 1250 SAT or 28 ACT score and once enrolled they must achieve a minimum 3.25 GPA to retain this award. Students must also live in college residence hall.
Foundation Scholar Award (15 awards)
The Foundation Scholar Award is a renewable $2,000 merit-based scholarship. Minimum qualifications for this merit award are a 92% unweighted high school average, 1250 SAT or 28 ACT score and a strong academic high school program. Once enrolled the student must achieve a minimum 3.25 GPA to retain this award. Students must also reside in a college residence hall.
This is a renewable $1,000 scholarship awarded to entering freshmen or transfer students who plan to live on campus. Recipients are selected based upon academic achievement and participation in school and community activities. To be eligible for consideration as a freshmen, a student must present an unweighted high school average of at least 90% and a minimum SAT score of 1150 or 25 ACT score. Transfer students should present a minimum GPA of 3.25. Once enrolled the student must achieve a minimum 3.25 GPA to retain this award.
Foundation Academic Scholarship (50 awards)
This scholarship targets new freshmen students who are majoring in the Math and Science areas and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. This is a one-time $1,000 merit award. The funds will be split between the fall and spring semesters and applied as a credit on your college bill towards your direct educational expenses. Minimum requirements are 90% unweighted high school average, 1100 SAT or 24 ACT, and you must be a full time student. This award has been made possible through the Fredonia College Foundation to recognize students demonstrating outstanding academic achievement.
Alumni Scholar Award (for Out-of-State Students Only)
(2 awards)
This scholarship is a renewable $5,000 award given to students that are Non-New York State residents that are a child or grandchild of a SUNY Fredonia graduate. Recipients must be involved in extra-curricular activities and live in the college residence hall. Minimum requirements are a 90% unweighted high school average, 1120 SAT or 25 ACT score and once enrolled they must achieve a minimum 3.00 GPA to retain this award. Early application is recommended, as a limited number of these competitive awards are available.
Keeper of the Dream Scholarship (4 awards)
This scholarship is a renewable $3,500 award given to high school students who graduate in the top 10% of their class. Minimum requirements are a 87% unweighted high school average, 1100 SAT or 25 ACT score, involvement in multicultural activities, and demonstration of leadership and community service, as well as a commitment to pluralism. Students MUST also live in college residence hall. Once the student is enrolled they must achieve a minimum of 3.00 GPA to retain this award. President's Out Of State Scholar Award
This scholarship is a renewable $3,000 per year award (equally distributed $1,500 each semester) offered to non New York State residents.
Incoming non-New York state residents admitted as undergraduate freshmen in Group I or Group II of the SUNY admission matrix are eligible. In order to recieve this award, students are required to enroll as full-time students, maintain residence outside of New York State, and live in a university residence hall.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four years for entering freshman, provided the student maintains the required 3.00 GPA, makes normal academic progress toward graduation, maintains a record of good student conduct, lives on campus and stays enrolled full-time.
Selection: The Director of Admissions will choose the award recipients based on their admissions application, SAT scores and high school grades. There is no separate application required. Students will be informed of the award in writing shortly after being admitted.
President's International Scholar Award
This scholarship is a renewable $3,000 per year award (equally distributed $1,500 each semester) offered to incoming non-resident undergraduate international freshman or transfer students.
Incoming non-resident undergraduate international freshman or transfer students with a minimum high school average of 90%, 24 ACT or 1100 SAT score or a college GPA of 3.25 are eligible.
In order to receive this award, students are required to enroll as full-time students, maintain residence outside of New York State and international student status, maintain normal academic progress, live in a university residence hall (freshman for three years, transfers until they reach senior standing), and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four years for entering freshman, and less for transfers, depending on their entering status. Scholarship recipients must maintain the required 3.0 GPA, make normal academic progress towards graduation, maintain a record of good student conduct, and stay enrolled full-time.
Selection: The Director of International Education will choose the award recipients based on their admissions application and transcript. There is no separate application. Students will be informed of the award in writing shortly after admission.
* School of Music Scholarships are awarded to qualified new students. Factors considered in awarding scholarships are music talent and accomplishments, academic achievement, and service to the School of Music. Students wishing to be considered for scholarship assistance must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Prospective students must also audition prior to March 15 for fall semester scholarship consideration. Fredonia Transfer Scholar Award (20 awards)
There are a number of transfer scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,000. Scholarships are offered only to transfer students who have received an Associate's Degree from an accredited two year college.
For consideration, student should have a 3.5 cumulative average. Students must live in the college residence halls. Students must maintain an overall cumulative 3.25 GPA to retain the scholarship for the second year and maintain the college residency requirement. USA and Seager Scholars from Jamestown Community College may also be eligible for this award.
SUNY Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship
This scholarship is a renewable $1,000 award offered to students who will make a contribution to the diversity of the student body in their program or school, primarily by demonstrating that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Minimum qualifications are a 87% unweighted high school average. Once the student is enrolled they must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75 to retain this award.
Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship
This scholarship is a one-time $4,000 award offered to incoming freshman and transfer students who demonstrate academic promise with preference given to qualified students from the Jamestown, NY area. Students who have a minimum unweighted high school average of 92 and a minimum 1250 SAT or 28 ACT score, or a transfer grade point average of 3.5, are eligible.
Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship Program
The Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship Program (MACS), funded by the National Science Foundation, encourages and supports talented students to complete SUNY Fredonia's programs in computer science, mathematics, or applied mathematics. MACS funds are available to support 30 scholarships annually, at $3,000 per scholarship.
Eligible students will have unmet need (as per federal guidelines), and incoming freshmen must have a high school average of 90 or above, with a combined SAT score (math & critical reading only) of 1120 or an ACT score of 24 or higher. Enrolled Students
In February of each year, returning students with a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA are automatically invited to apply for scholarships. The awards range from $100 to $1,500 and are based on academic achievement.
Alumni Scholarships
The Fredonia Alumni Association awards scholarships yearly to students who are children or grandchildren of Fredonia Alumni. Interested persons should contact the Alumni Affairs Office at (716) 673-3553 for more information.

Scholarships Open to All Majors
Scholarships are awarded to incoming students and continuing students who demonstrate outstanding academic aptitude, financial need and/or personal qualifications, and who have been recommended by the College Scholarship Committee. Separate applications are not required, qualified students are automatically considered for these scholarships and awards based on pre-established criteria.

Hispanic College Fund (HCF)
HCF has a variety of scholarship programs available for undergraduate and graduate students including: Google Scholarship Program, MasterCard Scholarship Program, Ford Mi Fuerza Program, and the Lockheed Martin Scholarship Program. More information and application procedures are available on the HCF scholarship web page. The application deadline is April 15 of each year.
