FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women’s basketball team gave the Steele Hall faithful another exciting finish, taking Oswego into overtime before falling, 63-60, in SUNYAC action on Friday.
In what was a close game the entire night, the biggest lead would be by the Devils at halftime – eight points – leading 34-26.
Oswego eventually battled back to even game, 42-all, with 8:36 left, following a Tricia Sullivan basket.
Late in the second half, the Devils held a 52-50 advantage when Colleen McCready made a reverse pivot in the lane and banked a short jumper to tie the game at 52 with 28.3 seconds left, eventually sending the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, Oswego outscored the Devils 11-8 to claim the victory.
Oswego, 13-11 overall and 10-7 in the SUNYAC, had 54 of its 63 points from four players. Kayla Ryan had 17, McCready had 14, Traci Bacon added 13 and Kristen Diglio finished with 10. Ryan, Bacon and McCready finished with 9 boards apiece.
The Devils were led by Katie Landy (Jamestown) with 21 points and 12 boards. Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) added 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) finished with 12 points.
The Devils (10-13, 6-11 SUNYAC) out-rebounded Oswego 52-40.
They wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. vs. Cortland in Steele Hall.
