CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Fredonia State baseball team defeated Minnesota-Morris, 13-2, in Fort Myers on Thursday.

Morris took an early 1-0 lead with three hits in the first inning. They scored again in the fourth, stringing together three singles to take a 2-0 lead.

The Devils would be held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Jake Nowak and Taylor Gahagen would contribute RBI doubles to power a four-run rally as the Devils claimed a 4-2 lead.

The Devils scored twice in the fifth. Don Kirsch drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly. Nowak drove in the second run with an RBI single.

The Devils exploded for seven runs in the sixth. Kirsch and Erik Pokornowski each contributed two-run doubles.

Pokornowski finished the game - his first college start - going 4 for 4.

"He came up clutch and showed he was ready to play," Fredonia State baseball coach Matt Palisin said of Pokornowski.

Nowak had three hits, while Rob Herrmann had a pair of hits.

"Jake is filling in for an injured player and made some spectacular plays including our 13th double play of the trip," Palisin said of Nowak. "He was our 10th guy and he started some in outfield and DH. He stepped right in and he was the best hitter during fall. We are looking for a reason to get him in the game and he is giving us a reason to want to get him in."

Matt Sullivan improved to 2-0 in earning the win on the mound. He had eight strikeouts and two walks in six innings pitched.
