OSWEGO, N.Y. – Fredonia State and Oswego split a pair of SUNYAC pitchers’ duels Saturday.

The Blue Devils won the opener with a run in the ninth inning, while the Lakers bounced back for a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.

Taylor Gahagen (Amherst/Williamsville North), a junior, walked to start the winning rally, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on a two-out single by junior Jon Messina (Jamestown). Andy Dlugosz (Lackawanna/Timon-St. Jude), a junior, improved to 5-0 this season with 3 2/3 innings of work after junior Matt Sullivan (Buffalo/Timon-St. Jude) pitched the first 5 1/3 innings. Sullivan had eight strikeouts, while Dlugosz fanned six.

The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 until the top of the seventh. With two outs, freshman Erik Pokornowski (Batavia) doubled, and senior Joe Kephart (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) followed with an RBI single.

In the nightcap, the Blue Devils collected eight hits – two each by Gahagen and senior Don Kirsch (Cowlesville/Attica) – off Oswego’s Andy Savlatore, but left eight runners stranded and wasted a combined four-hitter by freshman Caleb Brown (Sherburne/Sherburne Earlville) and junior Brian Lansing (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa).

The Blue Devils take an 11-6 record, 1-2 in the SUNYAC, into a conference doubleheader Saturday at Cortland. The first game starts at noon. Play-by-play will be webcast via the Cortland athletics website.
