FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team left the tieing run at third base, falling 5-4 in the 11th inning to Division II Gannon University on Wednesday.

With Joe Kephart (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) at third base with one out, Gannon ace Greg Radwan struck out the game's final two batters to preserve the win.

The Devils scored twice in the first, and led for most of the game. Jon Messina (Jamestown) and Don Kirsch (Attica) led of the bottom of the first with a pair of singles. Rob Herrmann (Trumansburg) then ripped the third straight hit to plate Messina. The ball rolled past the leftfielder, and Kirsch would come around to score, giving the Devils a 2-0 lead.

Gannon would be held scoreless until the seventh inning. With two outs, Brandon Crum singled and Jeff Jones doubled to plate Crum. Tim Lipp then blooped a ball that was ruled a hit to plate Jones.

The Devils bounced back in the bottom of the seventh when Kirsch ripped a one-out triple. He would score on a ground ball to give the Devils a 3-2 lead.

Fredonia State tacked on another run in the eighth when Bryan Bongiovanni (Fredonia) doubled home Josh Greco (Lockport) from second to make it 4-2, Devils.

Gannon would tie it in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Jones, and an RBI single by Lipp.

Gannon scored the game winner on a home run by Jones in the top of the 11th. Jones and Lipp drove in all five of the Gannon runs.

Matt Sullivan (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) and Caleb Brown (Sherburne) held Gannon scoreless through three innings. Dan Greco (Lockport) would go five innings, allowing three runs and striking out five. Justin Nowak (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) took the loss, going three innings and allowing two runs.

Gannon improves to 18-17. The Devils now stand at 13-8 on the season.
