FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of SUNYAC games to Brockport at Ludwig Field on Saturday. Brockport took the opener, 5-2, and completed the sweep with an 8-4 win in the nightcap.
Brockport starting pitcher Kyle Smith scattered five hits over eight-plus innings, surrendering two runs for the win in Game One.
Don Kirsch (Attica) and Taylor Gahagen (Williamsville North) had two hits apiece for the Devils.
Brockport did all their damage early, scoring two runs in the first and fourth innings, and one in the third to chase Blue Devil starting pitcher Matt Sullivan (Buffalo/Bishop Timon).
Andy Dlugosz (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) finished the game on the mound, going the final five innings and allowing one hit. He retired the final 14 batters he faced.
Game Two was a similar story, with Brockport accounting for seven of their eight runs in the first four innings. Blue Devil reliever Justin Nowak (Cheektowaga/Maryvale), who entered with two out in the bottom of the third, would allow three runs over the final six-and-a-third innings.
Kirsch led the Devils with three hits, while Gahagen and Rob Herrmann (Trumansburg) had two hits each.
The losses puts the Devils at 18-11 overall, and 2-7 in the SUNYAC. Brockport improves to 18-14 overall, and 6-5 in conference play.
