FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A leadoff triple by Don Kirsch (Attica), followed by a pair of intentional walks to load the bases set the stage for the Blue Devils. Freshman Dillon Lowe (Pittsford/Pittsford-Sutherland) drew a walk on a full count to drive in the winning run as the Devils claimed a 6-5, 11-inning victory in earning a split over New Paltz.
New Paltz cruised to an 11-2 victory in Game One.
In the second game, the Devils were down 4-0 heading into the fifth inning. Josh Melquist (Jamestown) drove in a run on a ground out as the Devils began their comeback.
In the sixth, Tommy Dee (Lackawanna/Bishop Timon) drew a walk and came around to score on a throwing error, making it 4-2.
The Devils took thier first lead in the seventh, scoring three times. Kirsch led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Melquist. Lowe then doubled, driving in two runs. He advanced to third on a wild pitch, and would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Josh Greco (Lockport).
With the Devils holding a 5-4 lead, New Paltz's Clinton Boettcher tripled to start the ninth. The game would go to extra innings when Mark Pinckney singled him home.
The Devils Dan Greco (Lockport) would hold the fort on the mound, getting the final three outs in the ninth in relief of Caleb Brown (Sherbuene-Earlville). He tossed two more scoreless innings to set up the eventual game-winning walk and improve his record to 3-2.
Game One saw the Devils score on a wild pitch in the first, and a Lowe home run in the second. New Paltz starting pitcher Joel Judson would slam the door at that point, allowing no runs the rest of the way. He finished with 11 strikeouts.
