OSWEGO, N.Y. -- What began a month ago in Fredonia, the Devils finished in jig fashion in Oswego on Sunday. Tied 3-all on April 2, the Devils and Oneonta State had Game Two of their SUNYAC doubleheader suspended due to darkness in the top of the ninth inning.
A month later -- and at a nuetral site -- it took a little over 15 minutes to claim a 4-3 victory in walk-off fashion.
Oneonta threatened in the ninth, as Mike Center walked to start the game. He was sacrificed to second. The Devils' Andy Dlugosz the struck out Mike DeCarr for the second out. Matt Whelehan then singled up the middle. Devil shortstop Josh Greco kept the ball in the infield, and allowed Dlugosz to work out of the jam, getting Mike Mascari to ground out to first to end the inning.
The Devils started off the bottom of the ninth with a walk to Eric Pokornowski. Tommy Dee then singled to right field, sending Pokornowski to third. Following a strikeout, Greco laid down a squeeze to send the Devils to victory.
Dlugosz was credited with his seventh win of the season. Dlugosz, the team's all-time wins leader, tied Ricky Carlson's year old season win mark.
The game was originally forced into extra inings when Oneonta's Pete Lindner hit a two-run, pinch-hit home run just before darkness fell in the top of the eighth. Up to that point, freshman starting pitcher Caleb Brown had only allowed a pair of hits through seven innings.
Oneonta starter Brett Meservey had only allowed one hit in his six innings of work, but was hampered by six walks, taking a no decision. Ken Smith took the loss.
Game One was won By Oneonta, 6-2.
The win put the Devils (20-13) at the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season. They finished 26-12 a year ago. Oneonta falls to 26-10.
