Baseball 

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Several Blue Devils participated in elite Collegiate Leagues this summer.

Senior captain Taylor Gahagen played in the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League; sophomore Alex Foster played in the New York Collegiate Baseball League; sophomore Jeremy Roden played for the Eastern Collegiate Baseball League; and graduates Rob Herrmann and Don Kirsch played in the New York State professional developmental league.

Gahagen had a strong season, earning All Star honors for the Carolina Hurricanes. Gahagen batted over .300 and played stellar defense at first base. Final season statistics were not available. Click here for a list of league all stars.

Foster played in 12 games and batted .212. for the Allegany County Nitros of the NYCBL. The League is one of the oldest collegiate leagues in the country, and features over 30 Major Leagues among its alumni.

Roden was a member of the ECBL runner-up Sherrill Silversmiths. Roden started 23 of the team’s 41 games this summer playing shortstop and second base, batting .192.

Herrmann and Kirsch were both members of the New York Hudsons. Herrmann was one of the league’s top hitters, finishing at .363 (33 for 91). Kirsch batted .253 (21 for 83). Final stats can be found here.

In the past five seasons, the Devils have placed players in several collegiate leagues: NYCBL (Kyle Adams, ’05; Herrmann, ’08; and Foster, ’10); Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League(Herrmann, ’09; Gahagen, ‘10); Western Major Baseball League (Jordan Basile, Ricky Carlson, ’08 and Matt Bauman, ’07); Eddie Brooks League (Adams, ‘06); Florida Collegiate League (Trey Johnson and Bauman, ‘06); and the Athletes in Action European Team (Johnson, ‘05). Bauman (’06 and ‘07), Herrmann (‘09) and Gahagen (‘10) were all named All Stars.
