FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Plattsburgh remained atop the SUNYAC with a 4-2 win Friday over Fredonia State at Steele Hall.
The Cardinals (13-1-2, 8-0-1 SUNYAC) took a 3-1 lead in the second period, had the lead trimmed in half in the third, then scored into an empty net in the final minute for the final margin.
A power-play goal by Joey Wilson (Newmarket, Ont.) proved to be the game-winning goal. It came at 11:40 of the second period and established the Cardinals' two-goal lead.
The Blue Devils (4-10-3, 2-5-2 SUNYAC) kept grinding away, outshooting the opposition 12-10 in the second period, and it eventually paid off. A slapshot from the right point by senior forward Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) cut the margin to 3-2 at 4:02 of the third period.
The Cardinals tightened defensively the rest of the way. Eric Satim (Montreal, Que.) scored an insurance goal with 47.7 seconds left after Fredonia State goalkeeper Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) skated to the bench in favor of an extra skater. Satim also had an assist earlier in the game.
Street finished with 31 saves while his Plattsburgh counterpart, sophomore Bryan Hince (Tillsonburg, Ont.), stopped 28 of 30 shots. Offensively, sophomore Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.) had one goal and one assist for the Blue Devils. His power-play goal, at 10:11 of the first period, forged a 1-1 tie at the time.
