CORTLAND, N.Y. -- James Muscatello (Baldwinsville) scored the game-winning goal in the third period to lead the Fredonia State to a 2-1 win over Buffalo State on Day 2 of the SUNYAC Challenge at Cortland's Alumni Arena.

Buffalo State (0-2-0) opened an early 1-0 lead when freshman Cory Park (Mississauga, Ont) scored on the power play at the 1:37 mark. Park took a pass from senior Jason Hill (Niagara Falls) at the left post and one-timed a shot for his first career goal. Joe Curry (Indian River, Ont.) also assisted.

The Blue Devils (1-1-0) tied the game at 12:47 of the second period. Senior Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) forced a turnover near center ice, skated in on a 2-on-0 and lifted a shot over Buffalo State freshman goalie Zach Grasley's (Ancaster, Ont.) right shoulder.

Fredonia State then netted the game-winner 19 seconds after killing off a Buffalo State power play at 6:17 of the third period. A junior, Muscatello, who came out of the penalty box, knocked in a rebound of junior Pat Capella's (Syracuse) shot that was stopped by Grasley. Sophomore Chris de Bruyn (Calgary, Alberta) collected an assist on the goal.

The Bengals pulled Grasley for an extra skater with 1:11 remaining in the game and had an excellent chance with 27 seconds left. Senior Travis Whitehead (Cambridge, Ont.) was camped alone at the bottom of the left face-off circle, but his shot was smothered by Blue Devil freshman goalie Kody Van Rentergem (Leduc, Alberta).

Van Rentergem finished with 23 saves for the Blue Devils, and Grasley stopped 26 shots for the Bengals.
