LEBANON VALLEY, Pa. -- Tied 1-all with just under 12:00 left to play, Fredonia State exploded for five goals in a span of six-and-a-half minutes to claim a 6-1 victory at Lebanon Valley.
Freshman Matt Hehr (Sherwood Park, Alberta/Sherwood Park) scored his first goal of the season 8:47 into the third period for the game winner. Mike Pao (Fairfax Station, Va./Calgary Canucks) and Steve Rizer (Smithtown/Capital District) assisted.
Chris Jung, followed by Alex Morton (Cannington, Ont./Notre Dame), Hehr and Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C./Brampton) scored goals during the offensive outburst. Oye’s goal – the final one of the game - came with 4:47 left to play.
The game started with a scoreless first period. Bryan Ross (Livonia, Mich./Alpena) gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 7:23 into the second period. Lebanon Valley evened things up 1:17 into the third, as Nicholas Schultz scored his first goal of the year.
The Devils would take control of the game from there, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Kody Van Rentergem (Leduc, Alberta/Brooks) earned the win in goal, making 18 saves while allowing one score. Rich Drazin had 34 saves and allowed six goals for the hosts.
The Devils outshot Lebanon Valley, 40-19. Neither team converted on any power play opportunities, the Devils had six chances to LV’s eight.
The Devils return home next weekend to take on SUNYAC opponents Cortland and Oswego in Steele Hall.
