PLATTSBURGH 10, FREDONIA STATE 2
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Nationally ranked Plattsburgh recovered from a slow start and rolled over Fredonia State, 10-2, in SUNYAC hockey Saturday at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
The Cardinals, No. 3 in this week's USCHO.com NCAA Division III men's rankings, scored eight unanswered goals to improve to 6-1-0 overall and in the conference.
The Blue Devils fell to 6-4-0 overall and 4-4-0 in SUNYAC. It was their first loss after three straight wins.
Fredonia State led 1-0 on a goal by freshman Brett Mueller (Queensbury, N.Y.), his first as a collegian, 55 seconds into the first period. Plattsburgh's Eric Satim (Montreal, Que.) scored back-to-back goals, the second one just after his team killed off a penalty, for a 2-1 Cardinal lead.
Jeff Aonso (Toronto, Ont.) forged a 2-2 tie with his second goal in two nights, a power-play tally at the 6:11 mark of the wide open opening period. Plattsburgh retook the lead at the 8:51 mark on a goal by Peter Kaliscik (Middle Village, N.Y.), the first of the eight-goal run.
In addition to Satim, Dan Sliasis (Georgetown, Ont.) and Vick Schleuter (Palmerston, Ont.) had two goals each for the Cardinals, who outshot their hosts, 42-29. Winning goaltender Ryan Williams (Milton, Ont.) was credited with 27 saves.
Fredonia State is off until Dec. 5, when they return to SUNYAC competition by traveling to Morrisville State.
