FREDONIA, N.Y. -- It was a night of firsts for two Fredonia State freshmen in a 2-0 SUNYAC home win over the Cortland Red Dragons.

Getting his second start in goal this season, Kody Van Rentergem (Leduc, Alberta), made 36 saves for his first collegiate shutout, while freshman forward Billy Sanborn (Malone, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal -- the eventual game-winner.

The Blue Devils (3-4-1, 1-3-0 SUNYAC) took a 1-0 lead at 4:41 of the first period off the stick of Sanborn from freshman junior forward Jeff Aonso (Toronto, Ont.). Senior defenseman Jeff Sylvester (Windsor, Ont.) made it 2-0 at 10:50 mark of the first period from Aonso and junior forward Andrew Dissanayake (Ajax, Ont.).

Van Rentergem bested his Cortland counterpart, freshman Mike Reilly (New York, N.Y.), who finished with 34 saves.

Both teams are back in SUNYAC action next Saturday -- the Blue Devils at Buffalo State, the Red Dragons at home vs. Morrisville State.
