PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men’s hockey team dropped a 4-1 road decision at No. 5 Plattsburgh on Saturday.
Plattsburgh jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a pair of power play goals. The first at 2:54 into the game. The second coming at 16:57.
The Cardinals added a goal in the second period to make it 3-0.
Plattsburgh would score first in the third period before the Devils got on the board with 41 seconds remaining. Jordon Oye connected on a power play, his 15th goal of the season, with Steve Rizer and Mitch Kulikoski assisting.
The Devils converted one of five power plays. Plattsburgh made good on two of four chances.
Kody VanRentergem took the loss in goal, making 39 saves while allowing all four scores. Plattsburgh netminder Josh Leis stopped 21 shots in the victory.
Plattsburgh improves to 16-4-4 overall and 12-2-1 in the conference.
The Devils fall to 16-6-2 overall, and 8-5-2 in the SUNYAC. They clinched third place in the regular season. Their final SUNYAC game is in Steele Hall on Feb. 20. The conference tournament begins on Feb. 23. The Devils will play host to a first-round game.
