Devils, Bengals tie on Pink the Rink night

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Buffalo State rallied to tie Fredonia State, 3-3, in front of a near-capacity crowd on Pink the Rink night in the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (4-12-5, 2-8-3 SUNYAC) held a 3-1 lead midway through the second period before the Bengals (8-10-4, 3-6-4 SUNYAC) began its comeback on a power-play goal by Kevin Kozlowski (Lockport, N.Y.) at 12:17. It was the only power-play of the night be either team.
Buffalo State's Jim Durham (Marilla, N.Y.) knotted the score at 10:20 of the third period.
The Bengals broke out on top, 1-0, on a goal by Nick Petriello (St. Catharines, Ont.) at 13:07 of the first period. The Blue Devils countered at 14:08 as Alex Morton (Cannington, Ont.) scored for the fourth time this season.
The Blue Devils scored the next two goals. Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.), who had assisted on the Morton goal, scored her fourth goal of the season at 3:40 of the second period. Chris deBruyn (Calgary, Alberta) made it 3-1 at the 8:18 mark with his third of the year.
The teams combined for 92 shots, 53 by the Blue Devils. Buffalo State goalkeeper Alan Fritch (Saginaw, Mich) made 50 stops, while Fredonia State's Kody Van Rentergem (Leduc, Alberta) stopped 36.
The Blue Devils wore pink jerseys and socks to promote breast cancer awareness. Nearly $3,000 was raised through a variety of related fundraisers, including the auctioning off the the game-worn jerseys.
The Blue Devils return to action next Friday at Morrisville State.
