WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Fredonia State's Amy Simon scored her fifth goal of the game with three seconds to go in the contest, breaking a 10-10 tie and capping a five-goal run to end the game for the Blue Devils, sending them to the 11-10 victory over Curry in a game held at SpringFling 2009.
After Curry's Nikki MacKay scored her seventh goal of the night to give the Colonels a 10-6 lead with 14:04 to play, Fredonia State's Laura Culhane and Simon scored goals 1:09 apart to pull within two at 10-8. Simon's fourth goal of the game pulled Curry within one at 55:35, and Culhane tied the game on an 8-meter goal at 58:08. Curry's Kerri Shaw made a save in the final minute, and on the ensuing clear, a long pass into the arc was intercepted by Fredonia's Colleen George. George started a clear that was finished as Simon cut laterally across the arc and fired in the game-winner.
The loss blunted a seven-goal performance by MacKay; Ashley Hansbury added the other three goals and assisted on one of MacKay's goals. Shaw had five saves for the Colonels (3-1) while Nicole Faulise had five saves for the Blue Devils (2-0).
