OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State won its SUNYAC opener and remained unbeaten Thursday by turning back SUNY Oswego, 16-13.
Freshman attacker Amy Simon (Amherst) had six goals, including a momentum-changer late in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Faulise (Buffalo/Mount St. Mary) had 20 saves to improve her's - and her team's - record to 6-0.
Freshman attacker Morgan McNamara (Oswego), junior midfielder Katie Monaghan (Fairport), sophomore attacker Emily Fink (Penfield), and sophomore attacker Laura Culhane (Rochester/Gates-Chili) each had three points.
The Blue Devils led 10-6 at halftime before opening their first of two six-goal leads. They were leading 14-8 when the Lakers (4-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) scored four straight goals to cut the Blue Devil lead to 14-12.
After a Fredonia State timeout, Simon scored to quell the Oswego uprising and continue the Blue Devils' best start in program history. Their previous best record after six games is 4-2, which has occurred four times.
The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday when they return home to University Stadium to meet Oneonta at 1 p.m.
