ELMIRA, N.Y. --- A late Fredonia State rally came up short in a 15-14 loss Thursday to Elmira College.

The Blue Devils (9-6) led in the first half by as three goals and they took their final lead, 11-10, on the one of the six goals scored by Amy Simon (Amherst). Five straight Elmira goals, one each by a different player, put the Pioneers in front 15-11 with 14:16 to go.

A scoreless stretch lasted until Stephanie Maderer (Orchard Park) scored for the Blue Devils with 3:26 left. Goals by Simon and Morgan McNamara (Oswego) followed before McNamara won the final draw with 1:20 leflt. Elmira goalkeeper Jalene McCullogh stopped shots by Simon and McNamara in the final minute. McCullogh controlled the ball for the final 17 seconds and ran out the clock. McCullogh finished with 13 saves, one fewer than Fredonia State's Nicole Faulise (Buffalo/Mount St. Mary).

In addition to her six goals, Simon added three assists for a season-high eight points. Emily Fink (Penfield) added three goals and Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) two goals. Top Blue Devil field player was Megan Mietelski (Fairport) with four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers.

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC competition for its final two regular-season games, starting 1 p.m. Saturday at New Paltz, followed by Geneseo 4 p.m. next Tuesday at University Stadium.
