NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- A new school record for goals in a season was set Saturday in Fredonia State's 16-5 SUNYAC road win over New Paltz.
Freshman attacker Amy Simon (Amherst) had five goals in the game and surpassed Claudia Jezioro on the single-season all-time scoring list. Jezioro scored 50 goals in 1998. Simon has 52 goals with one game remaining.
Morgan McNamara (Oswego) also netted five goals for the Blue Devils (10-5, 4-4 SUNYAC). Katie Monaghan (Fairport) and Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) each added two goals, and Laura Culhane (Rochester/Gates-Chili) had one goal and two assists.
Brinthaupt opened the scoring for the Blue Devils 1:45 into the game and Monaghan gave Fredonia State a 2-0 advantage just a minute later. Brittany Bennett cut the lead in half with a free-position goal 24 seconds later.
Sara Ceraso (Bellmore/Wellington) put the Blue Devils back up by two with a free-position goal at 25:44. Simon netted her first of the game 30 seconds later and McNamara netted her first two minutes later. Fredonia State led 5-1 with 23:04 remaining in the half. Simon and Culhane score and McNamara netted two goals to take a 9-1 lead over the Hawks with 3:57 remaining in the half.
Bennett score her second of the game of a pass from Sam DelGaudio. Monaghan scored with 29 seconds left in the half to give the Blue Devils a 10-2 advantage.
In the second half, Bennett netted her third of the game and 31st of the season four minutes into the half. Fredonia State rattled off five straight goals to take a 15-3 lead. Bridget Grover scored her fifth goal of the year with 10:40 remaining. Fredonia State's Simon netted the last goal for the Blue Devils with 8:44 remaining to take a 16-4 lead. DelGaudio scored her 27th of the season 20 seconds later end the scoring for both teams.
Nicole Faulise (Buffalo/Mount St. Mary) recorded the win in net allowing five goals and saving 10 shots.
The Blue Devils close out their regular season with a home game Tuesday vs. Geneseo. Game time at University Stadium is 4 p.m.
