Oneonta deals Devils first loss of season

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State lost for the first time this season, a 9-4 SUNYAC setback to the Oneonta Red Dragons Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.

The Blue Devils (6-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Amy Simon (Amherst) at 3:54. The Red Dragons (5-3) scored the next three goals before Simon scored again to cut the Blue Devil deficit to 3-2 at halftime.

Oneonta's Rebecca Monteith scored back-to-back goals as part of a 3-0 run to open the second half. When Simon scored for the third time, her team trailed 6-3 with 20:03 remaining.

The Red Dragons outscored their hosts 3-1 the rest of the way with senior Stephanie Maderer (Orchard Park) netting the lone Blue Devil goal.

Oneonta's Annelise Muscietta made eight saves while Fredonia State freshman Nicole Faulise (Buffalo/Mount St. Mary) made nine in the Blue Devil net.

The Blue Devils take on Morrisville State in their next game. The SUNYAC contest on the University Stadium turf field starts at 4 p.m.
