MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Down two goals early, Fredonia State eventually moved on to a 15-9 victory Thursday over the Allegheny Gators.
After trailing 3-1, the Blue Devils (7-1) scored five straight goals to take a lead they would not relinquish. Emily Fink started the rally with her first of five goals, all in the second half, to which she added two assists. Her seven points were the most in a game by a Blue Devil this season.
Morgan McNamara also had five goals, including two during a 5-0 run in the first half. Amy Simon also had two goals, and Nicole Williams had one, during the rally from which the Gators were unable to fully recover. They never got closer than a one-goal deficit the rest of the day.
Fredonia State was leading 9-8 midway through the second half when Fink found the mark on a free-position shot with 15:48 remaining. She added three more goals and Williams, McNamara, and Katie Monaghan had one each as the Blue Devils outscored the Gators 6-1 to close out the game.
Williams added an assist to her three goals, her first points this season. Nicole Faulise made 12 saves in the Fredonia State net while Megan Mietelski collected four draw controls and three ground balls.
Fredonia State returns home for its next game, a Saturday afternoon meeting against nationally ranked Cortland. The defending SUNYAC champs and pre-season favorite Red Dragons are No. 17 in the NCAA Division III rankings.
