BOXSCORE: Buffalo State 70, Fredonia State 67

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A three-point basket by Buffalo State's Jake Simmons with :47 left broke a tie -- the 11th of the game -- and carried the Bengals to a 70-67 SUNYAC home win over the Fredonia State Blue Devils.

Antonio Samedi's free throw with :26 left gave the Bengals a four-point lead before Fredonia State's Scott Valenta (Binghamton) made two free throws with :15 to go. The Blue Devils fouled immediately after calling a time-out and Norman Simmons hit one of two free throws for the final points by either team. A last-ditch shot by the Blue Devils was blocked.

James Kane (Buffalo/Timon-St. Jude) led Fredonia State with 15 points and eight rebounds. He also was credited with five assists. Greg MacBride (Clifton Springs/Newark) added 11 points and seven assists.

The Blue Devils dropped to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference. They played the game without two starters, including leading scorer and senior Brad Cooper (Monticello), who's lost for the season with a lower leg injury which will require surgery.

Norman Simmons had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Buffalo State, which improved to 5-5 in the SUNYAC and 7-9 overall.

Fredonia State's next three games are all on the road, SUNYAC contests at Brockport (Feb. 2), at Plattsburgh (Feb. 5), and at Potsdam (Feb. 6).
