FREDONIA STATE 64, PLATTSBURGH 54
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State completed its weekend SUNYAC sweep with a 64-54 Saturday over Plattsburgh at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils, winners over Potsdam on Friday, improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC with their fifth win in their last six games.
Plattsburgh fell to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Fredonia State trailed only once, 3-0, on a three-point basket by Plattsburgh's Steve Thomas (Plattsburgh) to open the game's scoring. Brad Cooper (Monticello) answered with a trey for the Blue Devils and then added a conventional two-point basket to put his team up for good. The Blue Devils led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Cooper led the Blue Devils with 16 points and continued his climb up Fredonia State's all-time scoring list. He was recognized before the game for reaching the 1,000-point plateau Friday vs. Potsdam, the 15th player to do so. He has subsequently moved past four players -- two more on Saturday -- into 11th place on the list with 1,032 points. Neil Postman (1,017) and Taha Alassari (1,029) were surpassed Saturday. Next up is Dean Bedgar (1,044).
Julius Bryant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) added 14 points and James Kane (Buffalo/Timon-St. Jude) had 13 for the Blue Devils. Kyle Mitchell (Lake Luzerne/Hadley Luzerne) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with nine points.
For Plattsburgh, Carl Munnerlyn (Brooklyn) had 14 points and Thomas added 12 points and had eight rebounds. In addition, Errol Daniyan (Coram/Longwood) grabbed nine rebounds, had seven points, and blocked four shots.
The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC competition with a road trip next weekend -- Friday at Oneonta and Saturday at New Paltz.
