NEWARK, N.J. -- Rutgers-Newark led from start to finish while winning its own John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic, 77-59, over Fredonia State.
The Scarlet Raiders (2-0) shot nearly 56 percent from the field and had four players in double figures.
Junior guards Kevin Saunders (Batavia) and Brad Cooper (Monticello) had 10 points each for the Blue Devils (1-1).
Fredonia State was 21 of 60 from the field (35 percent), including 6 of 16 on three-pointers.
Senior center Bryan Morse (Beacon) led the Blue Devils with seven rebounds. He also had eight points. Sophomore guard Julius Brant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) had six rebounds and three steals.
Fredonia State meets Penn State Behrend in Steele Hall at 8 p.m. Tuesday as part of a home doubleheader. The Blue Devil women face Nazareth in the opener at 6 p.m.
