HARBORCREEK, Pa. -- Despite shooting over 70 percent for the game, the Fredonia State men's basketball team fell at Penn State Behrend, 69-65, on Wednesday.
The Devils held a 30-26 lead at the half after shooting 57.9 percent (11 for 19) from the field. Behrend shot 43.5 percent (10 for 23).
The Devils were just getting warmed up. They shot a scorching 83.3 percent in the second half, making 15 of 18 field goals, compared to 44.8 percent (13 for 29) for Behrend. For the game, Fredonia State held a narrow edge in rebounds, 23-22. They also held a slight edge in three-pointers, 8-7.
The difference was 22 personal fouls committed by the Devils, while the home team was whistled 13 times. Behrend would go 16 for 19 from the charity stripe, compared to 5 for 7 for the Devils. Fredonia State also committed 17 turnovers to Behrend's six.
Senior guard Brad Cooper (Monticello/Monticello) led the Devils in points (16), rebounds (6) and assists (5) playing all 40 minutes. Sophomore Amir Billups (Buffalo/Starpoint) finished with 12 points.
The bulk of Behrend's offense went through 6'3'' junior forward Kevin Saltzman. He led all scorers with 31 points, and also topped both teams with seven rebounds.
Behrend is now 1-0 on the season. The Devils fall to 0-2.
