DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Fredonia State men’s basketball team fell to Division I Davidson College, 78-37 on Wednesday evening.

The hosts led 32-20 at the break, but made an impression on the Davidson boss. “Fredonia State played well in the first half and held us to one shot [each trip down the floor],” said head coach Bob McKillop. The Devils limited the size-advantaged Wildcats to just eight second-chance points at the break.The 12-point lead was Davidson’s largest of the game to that point.

Brad Cooper (Monticello/Monticello) had eight points in the first half for the Devils.

Davidson came out on fire in the second half, outscoring the Devils, 21-3, halfway through the period, taking a 53-23 lead.

The Devils were led Cooper with 10 points. Amir Billups (Buffalo/Starpoint) chipped in eight, while Julius Bryant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) added seven. Leonard Smith (Brooklyn/Nazareth Regional) led the Devils with five rebounds.

Will Archambeault led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds. He also nailed five three-pointers. Jake Cohen added 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Davidson out-shot the Devils, 14-4, from three point range. They also held a 45-24 advantage in rebounds.

It was the 18th consecutive home-opening win for the 1-4 Wildcats. Next up is Rhode Island University on Saturday.

The Devils, now 0-3 head home for Thanksgiving break. They are back in action at Houghton on Dec. 1.
