FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State pulled away to a 69-61 non-conference victory over Medaille to improve to 7-2 after the first semester of the 2008-09 season.
The host Mavericks (5-2) took its only lead of the second half, 53-52, on a basket by Keith Hack with 8:22 remaining. The teams were tied twice more after that, the final time with 3:56 left at 57-all. That was the start of a 12-2 run by the Blue Devils which settled the issue.
Wayne Davis (Binghamton) led Fredonia State with 19 points, including 5 of 6 from the line down the stretch. Kevin Saunders (Batavia) finished with 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Julius Bryant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) added 14 points on 7 of 8 shooting. Two of Bryant's baskets were the start of the 12-2 run.
Fredonia State is idle for the rest of December and will return to SUNYAC competition when they return to action, Jan. 9 against Plattsburgh, the first of four straight home games.
