FISHER 72, FREDONIA STATE 71

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Blue Devils lost a hard-fought contest, 72-71, against Fisher (Mass.) in the Brodie Tournament played at R.I.T. on Sunday.

The game was tight the entire way, with neither team separated by more than seven points at any time.

Fisher led 42-38 at the break. Brad Cooper (Monticello) had 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first half for the Devils.

In the second half, the game would go right down to the wire. With Fisher up 70-66, Cooper nailed a three pointer to make it a one point game, 70-69, with 2:05 remaining.

After a Fisher timeout, the Devils regained possession on a turnover. A missed three attempt by Leonard Smith (Brooklyn/Nazareth Regional) was rebounded by Cooper. Julius Bryant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) would eventually convert a layup to give the Devils a lead, 71-70, with :16 seconds remaining.

Fisher’s Chris Hammond would make a layup in the closing seconds to provide the final.

Bryant added 15 points for the Devils. Greg MacBride (Clifton Springs/Newark) added 10.

Fisher, who slipped past R.I.T. 69-68 on Saturday, improves to 8-1 on the season.

The Devils fall to 3-4 on the season. They are off until Jan. 8 when they play host to SUNYAC rival Potsdam.
