NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's fast start picked up more steam Friday with a 68-63 road win at New Paltz.

Brad Cooper (Monticello) led the offense with 19 points of 7 of 16 shooting. Kevin Saunders (Batavia) added 12 points and Kyle Mitchell (Lake Luzerne/Hadley Luzerne) had 10.

The Blue Devils improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz fell to 2-4 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC.

Fredonia State trailed only once in the game, at 2-0, and were only tied a couple times thereafter. It largest lead was 29-20 on a layup by Saunders at the 5:32 mark of the first half.

The Hawks fought back to tie the score at 52-52 on a basket by Lee Bertram with 4:31 remaining. The Blue Devils retook the lead for good when Mitchell grabbed a rebound and scored on the putback with 4:06 left.

Saunders made 3 of 4 free throws and Greg MacBride (Clifton Springs/Newark) was 2 of 2 in the final minute. Mitchell completed the scoring with a dunk following a pass from Cooper.

Fredonia State is back in action 4 p.m. Saturday at Oneonta in another SUNYAC road game.
