FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Devils picked up a key SUNYAC victory at Geneseo, 66-58, on Tuesday. Freshman Joseph Monahan poured in 22 points to lead the Devils to a season sweep of the Blue Knights.
The teams battled back and forth for the first 13:00, with neither team separated by more than five points. The Devils would take the lead for good, 21-19, on a three pointer by Monahan. The Devils biggest lead of the game, nine points, would come after a Kyle Mitchell layup at 1:31, to make it 31-22.
The Devils closed the half with a 31-26 lead.
The game remained close throughout the second half, with the Devils’ biggest lead of eight points coming after Amir Billups converted a pair of free throws to end the game.
Mitchell finished with 14 points and Billups added 11 off the bench.
Geneseo (7-16, 6-10) had 15 from Abe Miller and 14 from Kyle Stevens. Miller added a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Devils upped their conference record to 8-8, and 10-12 overall, moving them into fifth place with two regular-season games left to play. The top eight teams make the tournament. They play Oswego and Cortland in Steele Hall this weekend.
