BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell 75-57 Tuesday to Brockport in SUNYAC action.

The Blue Devils dropped to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles improved to 14-5 and 10-2.

Scott Valenta (Binghamton) had 14 points to lead the Blue Devils, who had an advantage in nearly every statistical category but turnovers. They had 31 to Brockport's 12.

The miscues very well were the difference. The Blue Devils shot 53 percent from the field, 56 percent from three-point range, and had a 32-17 rebounding advantage.

In addition to his 14 points, Valenta grabbed a seven rebounds. Kyle Mitchell (Lake Luzerne/Hadley Luzerne) also had seven rebounds.

The Blue Devils trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, yet battled back to pull even, 33-33, on a three-point basket by Joseph Monahan (Floral Park/Holy Cross) with 1:18 left. Brockport regained the lead and led 36-35 at the break. 

A three-point basket by Amir Billups (Buffalo/Starpoint) forged a 38-38 tie in the first minute of the second half. The Blue Devils then took their first lead, 41-40, on a three-point basket by Valenta. A three-point play by Greg MacBride (Clifton Springs/Newark) pushed the Blue Devil lead out to 44-40.

Brockport regained the lead over the next few minutes and never trailed again. They closed out the game with a 18-4 run.

Jermaine Johnson had 20 points for the Golden Eagles, including three three-point baskets at the start of the game.

Fredonia State stays on the SUNYAC road this weekend -- 8 p.m. Friday at Plattsburgh, 4 p.m. Saturday at Potsdam.
