FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State accepted a bid Monday to play in the ECAC Upstate New York men's basketball tournament Friday at St. John Fisher.

The Blue Devils (18-9), runners-up in the SUNYAC, will meet Hartwick at 8 p.m. after host St. John Fisher and Oswego square off at 6 p.m. The winners meet for the tourney title 2 p.m. Saturday.

In other men's basketball developments Monday, SUNYAC awards were announced and Fredonia State was represented in two categories.

Blue Devil head coach Kevin Moore was named 2008 SUNYAC Coach of the Year in a vote of his peers. Moore guided the Blue Devils to an 16-8 regular season, including 10-6 in the conference, and then added SUNYAC Tournament wins over Oneonta and Cortland before falling to Brockport in the championship game Saturday. The Blue Devils' 18 wins represents the most in Moore's eight seasons as head coach.

In addition, junior guard Brad Cooper (Monticello) was selected All SUNYAC honorable mention -- the first Fredonia State men's basketball All SUNYAC player since Dustin Arnold after the 2002-03 season. Cooper averaged 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 16 SUNYAC games. In the final six games of the season, including playoffs, Cooper has averaged 21.8 points to up his seasonal average to a team-leading 12.2 points per game.
