CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Cortland's Bryan Patterson scored a goal in each half in a 3-1 SUNYAC victory over Fredonia State. The Red Dragons pushed their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) and improved to 7-2-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference, while the Blue Devils fell to 7-6 and 1-5.

Cortland opened up a 2-1 lead after the first 45 minutes of play. In the 16th minute, the Red Dragons scored on an "own goal" when a Fredonia State defender deflected senior Ayinde George's cross into the goal. Patterson made it a 2-0 game in the 37th minute on a solo effort. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 2-1 in the 42nd minute. Freshman Cory Paine (Ontario/Wayne) mishit a shot attempt on a corner kick but gathered in the loose ball and buried a shot into the upper left corner from 13 yards out.

Neither team generated much offense in the first half of the second stanza until Patterson broke through for his second goal of the game and team-high eighth of the season. Steve Axtell made four saves for Cortland. Tom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) played the first half for Fredonia State and stopped two shots before giving way to senior Andy Feldmann (Silver Creek), who registered one save in the final 45 minutes.
