(BOX SCORE: Brockport 3, Fredonia State 2)
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Aaron Acello's second goal of the game lifted Brockport over Fredonia State, 3-2, in SUNYAC men's soccer Saturday night at University Stadium.
Acello, a senior forward from East Rochester, was the the beneficiary from two quick passes from teammates Steve Agbarian (Merrick/Bellmore-JFK) and Jamey Crumb (McGraw) with 8:20 remaining. While they drew attention on the right wing, Acello snuck in alone down the left side and scored from near the left post before Blue Devil freshman goalkeeper Bobby McGinnis (Elmira) had time to recover.
It was Acello's 10th goal of the season. His ninth goal in the 53rd minute put the Golden Eagles (9-5-0, 7-3-0 SUNYAC) into a 2-0 lead. Again, he was set up with a good pass into the box, this one from Brad Lefort (Chittenango), who made a short run through the midfield before setting up the score.
A goal by Crumb, his third of the season, in the 32nd minute accounted for the only scoring in the first half. Standing in the middle of the box, Crumb banged home the rebound from a shot by Agbarian, which struck the crossbar and bounced forward out of the reach of Blue Devil senior goalkeeper Andrew Feldmann (Silver Creek).
The Blue Devils (9-8-0, 3-7-0) made a spirited comeback to forge a 2-2 tie. Matt Grabowski (Victor), a freshman forward, had a goal and an assist during the rally. He cut the margin to 2-1 in the 62nd minute with his third goal of the fall following a run and a pass laid off by freshman Craig Wean (Rochester/Greece Olympia).
Grabowski then had a hand in a goal by his cousin, John Grabowski (Middleport/Royalton-Hartland), in the 66th minute. A cross by freshman Cory Paine (Ontario/Wayne) set up the play. Matt Grabowski's initial shot was stopped Brockport freshman goalkeeper Kyle Sauln (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta), but John Grabowski quickly converted a short rebound. It was his first goal of the season.
The Blue Devils were outshot 21-11 but had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Sauln made four saves in the Brockport net. Fredonia State's Feldmann was credited with five saves in the first 56 minutes before McGinnis took over.
The Blue Devils closed out their season 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Hobart at University Stadium.
