GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men’s soccer team played No. 19 Hobart College to a 2-2 double-overtime draw Saturday afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Devils now stand at 4-4-2, while the Statesmen move to 7-1-2.
All four of the game’s goals were scored in the second half. Hobart struck first, a Will Abbott tallied :47 seconds into the second stanza. He found himself with the ball on the right side of the goal after a scramble in front, and his shot from about eight yards out put the Statesmen up 1-0.
Peter Dagel (Rochester/Gates Chili) answered for the Blue Devils in the 64th minute, after Cory Paine (Ontario/Wayne) chipped it to him for a breakaway one-on-one shot vs. Hobart goalie Charlie Hale.
Just over 10 minutes later, Alex Kittelberger headed in Hobart’s second goal of the day, following a corner kick from Michael Moulton.
In the 83rd minute, Dagel and Paine again teamed up to account for the game’s final tally.
Both teams registered 14 shots, but the Statesmen held a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Hale finished with four saves, while Thom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) collected seven saves for Fredonia State.
The Devils will be back in action on Oct. 9, when they play host to Cortland at University Stadium.
