Men's soccer 

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Peter Dagel scored in the second overtime while Tom Cavanaugh recorded his first collegiate win Friday as Fredonia State defeated Clarkson, 1-0, in the first round of the Lotto North County Classic.

Junior forward Ryan O'Donnell and sophomore defender Brett Wysocki assisted on Dagel's game-winner. Meanwhile, Cavanaugh was stellar while earning in his first collegiate shutout in his first starting assignment. He was a back-up goalkeeper his first two seasons with the Blue Devils.

"Cavanaugh was phenomenal," head coach P.J. Gondek said. "He played his head off."

It was the opening game of the season for the Blue Devils, who will meet St. Lawrence for the tournament title at noon Saturday. St. Lawrence advanced with a 4-0 victory over Johnson & Wales.
