FREDONIA, N.Y.  -- Oneonta scored early in the first half to claim a 1-0 SUNYAC victory Friday over Fredonia State.

After a scoreless first half, the Red Dragons broke through in the 59th minute. An outlet pass by goalkeeper Jonathan Korn (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills) to midfielder Dan Scott (Salt Point/Franklin D. Roosevelt) started a fastbreak. Scott passed ahead to midfielder Evan Jedynak (Malta/Ballston Spa) streaking up the middle, and Jedynak connected into the left side of the net. It was Jedynak's seventh goal of the season.

The closest the Blue Devils (3-4-1, 0-1-1 SUNYAC) came to tying came in the 79th minute when defender Michael McGinnis (Elmira/Elmira Free) banged a shot off the left post from just outside the goalkeeper's box.

The teams played an even-sided, scoreless first half. Each had three shots-on-goal and four corner kicks with Oneonta registering the best scoring chance. After taking a through ball, Larry Pestana (Valhalla) slid a shot along the ground which rolled wide of the open left corner in the 33rd minute.

The Blue Devils finished with 15 shots, eight on the goal, with Korn making all eight saves. In the Devil net, senior Thom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) had four saves. Each team took five corner kicks. Oneonta improved to 7-1-0, 2-0-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Blue Devils again home again Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. the New Paltz Hawks.
