FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Eli Lubberts (Ontario/Wayne) scored with just over two minutes left Wednesday as Fredonia State edged Westminster, 1-0, at University Stadium.

After his team had several scoring chances in the late going, Lubberts went streaking up the left side and gathered in a long through from John Grabowski (Middleport/Royalton-Hartland) which came from the opposite side of midfield.

Lubberts directed his shot from outside the 18-yard box across to the opposite corner and behind Westminster goalkeeper Lance Leathers (Pleasant Gap, Pa./Bellefonte).

The goal broke a long scoring drought by Fredonia State which stretched across four games and spanned 269 minutes.

The Blue Devils (4-4-1) outshot the Titans (5-6-0) by a 17-1 margin in the second half, and 22-9 in the game.

Westminster held a territorial advantage in the first half. The Titans attempted eight shots, five on net, and forced five corner kicks. Thom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) made two point-blank stops or the lead would have belonged to the Titans.

Cavanaugh finished with five saves in posting his second shutout of the season. Leathers made six saves for the Titans.

Fredonia State is back in action Saturday afternoon at Hobart.
