Basketball preview

FREDONIA, NY. -- First the good news. The Fredonia State men's basketball team won seven of nine games during the first semester. They were 1-1 in SUNYAC games.

The bad news is that was weeks ago. The Blue Devils have been idle since Dec. 11 when they won at Medaille, 69-61. They will have gone 28 days between games when they tip off vs. Plattsburgh at 8 p.m. Friday, the second game of a SUNYAC doubleheader at Steele Hall.

"I'm always a little bit nervous after the long semester break," head coach Kevin Moore said. "But we have had a great week of practice in preparation for this important conference weekend against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. We hope to be able to pick up where we left off before the break -- playing great team defense and rebounding the ball better than our opponents."

Potsdam visits Steele Hall for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.

The Fredonia State women are also at home both days -- vs. Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. Friday, vs. Potsdam at 2 p.m. Saturday. Head coach Donna Wise's team has already played twice in the new year, splitting the pair of non-conference games within the past week.

"Our goal is to even up our SUNYAC record this weekend with our home-court advantage," said Wise, whose team is 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. "We are looking forward to jumping out of the gates quickly with back-to-back wins as we begin a four-game home stretch."
