FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Two Fredonia State men have received weekly SUNYAC awards in their respective sports.
Junior basketball player Brad Cooper (Monticello) is the co-player of the week. Cooper, a guard, averaged 23 points in Blue Devil wins over Buffalo State, Geneseo, and Cortland. His 32-point effort vs. Cortland was a college career scoring high. Cooper is the first Blue Devil men's basketball player to receive a weekly award this season. He and his Blue Devil teammates will take on Oneonta State at 8 p.m. in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament at SUNY Oneonta.
Sophomore middle distance runner Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) was selected men's track athlete of the week. he did so by finishing fourth in the mile run at Cornell's Deneault Invitational with a time of 4:28.26. He is the first Fredonia State male and the first runner of either gender to receive a weekly honor this winter. Guarino's next competition will be Saturday at the SUNYAC Championship meet on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.
