FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball program received 10 votes in the latest D3baseball.com poll out this week. Their 10 points puts them 36th on the list of Division III teams. It is the first time in the team's history to receive that recognition.
"We have played well this year, and it is great that we are getting noticed," said head coach Matt Palisin. "We have had timely hitting, consistent pitching and have played great defense."
As of Sunday, the Devils lead the SUNYAC in hitting (.370) and defense (.970), and rank second in ERA (2.31).
The 12-4 Devils have had several impressive victories this season. In their home opener, they defeated No. 25 Penn State Behrend, 6-5. They also claimed a 10-2 win over Oneonta State (17-4 record), who received five votes in the poll.
The Devils opened their season and spring trip with 12-0 and 10-0 wins over Dominican. They closed out the trip with an 11-1 win over a solid Bethel (Minn.) team. The team has scored 10 or more runs eight times, the high water mark coming in a 22-11 win over New Paltz on Monday.
In addition, the Devils had back-to-back SUNYAC Players of the Week to start the season. Pete Lusk earned the honor on March 17, while Josh Greco was tabbed on March 23.
