
Saeva sends Devils to sixth straight

ERIE, Pa. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils got a complete-game, five hitter from senior Matt Saeva in downing Division II Gannon University, 8-2, on Thursday.
Saeva walked none and struck out five in his upping his record to 2-0 this season. Both wins have been complete-game efforts.
Gannon scored both its runs in the fourth. Following a hit batter, Gannon got doubles from Frank Jagoda and Greg Radwan to score the first run. Pat Patsilevas singled in the second run. Gannon managed only two other hits on the day - none over the final four and two-thirds innings.
Meanwhile, the Devil offense did its damaged in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Following back-to-back one out walks, Jeremy Borst tripled to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Eric Dietrick singled home Borst to make it 3-0.
Gannon would tack on two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a 3-2 game.
The Devils answered back with back-to-back doubles by Joe Kephart and Jordan Basile to open the fifth. Basile would eventually score on a groundout by Rob Herrmann.
The Devils scored three more times in the sixth. Borst doubled to lead off the inning. Following a strikeout, Matt LaPorte reached on an error. Kephart followed with a two-run triple to give the Devils a 7-2 advantage. He would score on Basile's sacrifice fly.
Borst and Kephart each had three hits and two RBI to pace the Devil offense. Basile added a pair of RBI.
The win improves the Devils to 18-5 overall, and extends its win streak to six games. They travel back to Erie on Friday, taking on Penn State Behrend in a 2 p.m. tilt.
